This may be old news to some, but according to the
LA Times, the classic Terrytoons character
Mighty Mouse is apparently poised to make a triumphant return sometime in the next couple of years, with Paramount currently developing a “reboot” of the animated series for the big screen.
The property seems like it could be a gold mine, considering the popularity of both superhero flicks and family-oriented live-action / CG hybrid comedies. As the article points out, however, both the original 1940s Mighty Mouse comic and the Ralph Bakshi late ’80s cartoon revamp were satirical and somewhat subversive, and it'd be cool to see them go in THAT direction with the film. Unfortunately, I think the ultimate goal will be to recreate the success of movies like "Alvin and the Chipmunks" instead.
It’s not clear yet if they’re considering some hybrid live/animation like Alvin and the Chipmunks, or a movie in full CGI...
but I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be in 3D…!!!
