Tribute to Pin Up Queen...

UPDATED - Well, here's the finished piece... my tribute to the legendary 1950s pin-up queen with the killer curves and trademark coal-black bangs. "I don't want to be photographed in my old age," she told an interviewer in 1998. "I feel the same way with old movie stars. ... It makes me sad. We want to remember them when they were young."

... Bettie Page, who passed away last month at 85 years old. Her underground popularity has continued to soar despite the fact that the reclusive Page disappeared almost a half century ago, leading many to believe that one of the most photographed individuals of the 20th century was already dead. One example of how Bettie Page has been re-introduced to new generations of eager young fans: Artist Dave Stevens created a comic book hero called “The Rocketeer,” with a love interest clearly inspired by Bettie Page; Disney adapted it as a big budget, same-named motion picture vehicle for Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly. Stevens, recently deceased, became one of Page’s most devoted friends, one of the few she could trust. It was Stevens who escorted Bettie Page to the Playboy Mansion for a private 35mm screening of THE ROCKETEER in 1994. She had never seen the film before. She loved it.

At the request of my fellow bloggin' buddies, we decided to pay tribute to Page this month on our blogs. Here's a sketch i did that i plan to vectorize and color up as soon
as i can.

Stay tuned,
C!

She Sucks, Doesn't She??

Is HALLOWEEN just a delightful holiday for dressing up, parties and candy? Or is it really a time when restless spirits are allowed to roam more freely among the living? In honor of this fright night, i present two new sketches of my favorite undead bloodsucker...

Might get to colorize one of these over the next few days!

Wonder Woman Day 3-Part 2

Finally finished the two pieces i've donated to the "Wonder Woman Day III" auction. It was pretty nice using traditional media after so long however i've realized how comfortable i am using the computer to digitally enhance my art as well. There's much more room for experimenting in Photoshop/ Illustrator without jeopardizing the original art.

Regardless, i'm glad to have been able to contribute to a great cause!

Wonder Woman Day 3-Part 1

On October 26, 2008, "Wonder Woman Day III"— as a part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month — will take place, again at Excalibur Books in Portland, Oregon, and at Comic Fusion in Flemington, New Jersey. i'm honored to be contributing two pieces of Wonder Woman-themed artwork for such a great cause. Here's the two sketches i plan to finish in the next couple of days - one in color and the other in B & W inks. It's been pretty cool going "back to basics" and NOT using digital techniques for this project. (Feels like college again!) i'll be posting the finished artwork as soon as they're done...

I Know What I Did Last Summer...

... and it wasn't as much ARTWORK as i had hoped!!! Man, this blog sure is "dusty"! Well, i guess between the job and parenting i kinda let the drawing fall to the side for a bit-- but i DID draw some stuff here and there just never got the time to scan anything in till now. Surprisingly, i did get to catch the summer hit movies including IRON MAN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, and of course, THE DARK KNIGHT. Last i heard, The Dark Knight has earned $921.7 million worldwide and has climbed to the 9th spot on the all-time worldwide blockbuster list!!! (without Bat-Nipples!) Anyways, much of my scribblin' comes from the characters that received the big screen treatment this summer... and as the fall begins i'm hoping this blog of mine gets more attention by way of more posting.... let's see what happens!!!
